Last post I asked what people find central to…
A well-lived life
Being spiritual or religious
Being a good person…
(I wanted people to feel free to use their own preferred terminology…)
One way to categorize your answers is as follows; some look like they could belong to both categories:
Consciousness/Inner Life/Feelings
Faith
Inner peace
Insight into another realm
Integrity
Loving God
Loving others
A rich inner life
Behavior
Do no harm
Give the best you have to give
Golden Rule: treat others as you’d like to be treated
Some questions
Think anyone’s hit the bull’s eye?
Any items that you’d view as especially important or that you’d see as not really so central?
Do you see some items as relating to others or even saying basically the same thing in different words?
What do you make of the relationship of inner life to behavior?
Please note – In the past I’ve replied to each individual comment, but going forward I may need to comment less often because of increased time constraints.

24 Comments:
1. behaviour = manifestation of inner life.
2. the notions of a well-lived life, being spiritual, and being a good person seem like links in a chain.
3. when i use the word 'good' i mean to convey the concept of considering the needs of others in addition to my own needs
... specifically i am thinking of the times when i have very little, and i someone i know has nothing. sharing may cause me to deplete my resources faster, but ... i still feel i must.
i.e its easy to share when you have an abundance ... not so easy when you got nothing ... still, being 'good' isn't something we do only when its easy, is it?
Sticking to Truth may be included. but then it is spread over the ones said. One may fail to notice it sometimes, though
AND THEN, Its a way of life Paul...
no one can be all this in a day!

not possible for all, overnight
**What do you make of the relationship of inner life to behavior?
This is the hardest to achieve. Everyone speaks of wanting/having inner peace but the behavior is altogether different. I need accentuate on it too...to be able to hv an OUTER life that truly portrays my INNER life.
Keshi.
sorry abt the mistake b4 Paul :)
Keshi.
"
means if i will kill myself, kill others?
inner life : behaviour....hmm...there is a saying in my mother tongue, " adha thinru adha vhayum(it will eat that and it will live) :)
To answer Vishesh about the "Golden Rule"--(since I was the one who brought it up):
You bring up a good question! But I believe that even one who is planning suicide still would object to having that decision taken away--by a random murderer.
Therefore the Golden Rule would not mean killing others.
my response is to Vishesh and Firebird...
i think Firebird is more correct...
I was at a cross roads just recently as yesterday..The random murderer for me was my mother's words -- who keep saying forgive and forget :-)

IH: Thanks for the link –
FS: “Considering the needs of others in addition to my own needs” sounds about right to me as far as what’s central to the behavior aspect.
LC: Thank you -
DEV: Guess you’d need to say what Truth with a capital T is. Some would say there’s no such thing… If there is, it probably can’t be articulated well in an expository sort of way.
KESH: That seems true to me too: that how a person lives, their outer life, is the best indicator of the state of their inner life.
VISH: Sounds like that saying may mean that you’ll end up living out what’s characteristically on your mind?
Ha. Yes, and the Golden Rule also means that if I like racquetball, then I buy everyone I know a racquet for a holiday present.
FB: But what about a nonrandom murderer? Say somebody who genuinely disliked the would-be suicide?
Only kidding. That Vishesh…
DEV: One’s mom doesn’t sound too random though!
ON the first comment: TRUTH --in capitals had been a time for Indians long back -- Mahatma Gandhi..killed that in Indians, as he was killed by Communalists
anway, i thought it was spread among the many other aspects...
On the second: I am now about 3500kms away from my mother, and when i go through bad patches i avoid calling her...
and with a mind working in its own evanescent ways -- her advises came only at random...infact only twice, truly...
that too after being able to relieve myself submitting fully to God's choices...which even now remain uncertain..Acceptance of whatever he gives is what i meant...
i do not know to what level i abl to make myself clear, yet that is..
perhaps, one need to have my mind and ways of seeing/feeling things to understand it fully..i think that's impossible...no amount of cloning will take you there..

I'm thinking that to connect with what's out there, is the only way. Firstly so that our actions are coming from the right place and secondly because the more we learn about how things are, the more likely we are to get those good vibes rolling.
I suppose that it's important as well to know what we don't know so we don't screw it up with the best intentions.
It's not easy, for sure!
Golden Rule 101: (elementary level)
I want people to find out what I like before they give me presents!
Therefore I must do the same for YOU...
I can think of a good use for that racquet...
I've mentioned your book in my own blog yesterday,
http://www.almostgotit.com/2008/11/11/what-your-life-is-trying-to-tell-you/
and it does look like some folks have clicked through. I would have liked to include the publisher's blurb, but linked to it instead as my post was getting too long! I hope I've given you a fair shake, at any rate. Can certainly back-edit if you've any objections...
Peace to you-

yep.
And when ppl claim they r so good and r spiritual, but act in a total different way, its enough proof that words dun always mean deeds :)
Keshi.
I think, i missed the main point here.
all these are aimed at the personal existence of an individual..
For a person having a purpose/dream in life, which is very seperated from his personal life -- the aspect central to him/her will be -- trying to eliminate evils in the society primarily through the handle of love and awareness....
i belong to this catgory, i feel

FIREBIRD: I think the racquet should be used on Vishesh for going down this path… Hopefully he’s not reading this… Vishesh?
HAZZBUZZ: Right - there’s the matter of unintended consequences...
ALMOSTGOTIT/ELIZABETH: Thanks, I appreciate that.
KESHI: “Know the tree by its fruits.” At the same time, I think there are limits to what we know. We can know that someone’s head isn’t on right but we never really know exactly how come. For example, you can have two people with similar backgrounds and obstacles but one will lead a constructive life and the other not.
in such a world --fighting oneself gives no personal peace...and the doer is inclined to take easy routes...breaking the world into smaller, manageable ones...and living there peacefully..
the rest of the world one doesn't care, or rather cannot care if he/she has to have his/her life -- not peaceful life - just life!!

Tolerance and acceptance of others, understand other cultural beliefs is very important in our ralationship.
Our human brains seek to classify everything to understand our world. But... when we can focus on what we have in common
and look to the underlying similarities in cultural practices,
we can connect on the level of members of a large, beautiful global family.
As humans we all share the same needs.
Of course with your links.
Wishing you a good day!
Hope to get back to comment on you and DEVIKA'S last comment but may not get to before next post... very time consuming now with need for health aide seven days/week.
Take care of your health..my comment - damn give a care, i would say...
and if you think in anyway, i live life based on a conceptual framework..i'm afraid, i am not...i always try to adapt myself with the world i live in..having done that for 40 years...i do not think it makes it any difficult for the rest...
btw, i agree fully with Krystyna says -- and that's my way for adapting with the world i'm supposed to live in...
again...take good care of yourself,
my prayers remain, for you as others...
wishes!

PS: If i may say, i have no great plans for life or the world -- just that as I have my mundane pleasures, i try to make some meaning out of it...
Don't worry about comments.
Take care,
you are always in my thoughts and prayers.
